It’s no secret my older daughter LOVES overnight oats. She’d eat them all day long for breakfast, lunch and snack (over and over again) if she could, so I thought it would be fun to come up with some new variations (just to switch things up from her old favorite).

After trying strawberries and cream, peaches and cream and apple pie flavors, apple pie was the big winner, and I’m excited to share it with you today! I love to have these on hand at the beginning of a busy week for whenever hunger strikes or even for when I just need something extra for the lunch box.

  1. This is one of my favorite breakfast recipes. I love various textures in my food and the crunchy apples and the creamy oats make my mouth so happy.

  2. Hi – I tried making these are they were GREAT! Being lazy/busy, I’m wondering how long they’ll keep in the fridge? IE if I make a batch on Sunday evening, how many days can I make ahead?

    Thanks!

Fabulous recipe! Thank you for new breakfast idea. I am curious if you have an opinion on best jars to use. I have heard that some glass containers are better than others. Any thoughts on this?

These are so yummy and so easy, especially if you fill several jars at once assembly line style. I definitely recommend including the optional applesauce. I also threw in about 2 tsp worth of finely chopped walnuts and love the subtle texture that added. Delicious recipe and just in time for our local apple season!

Add a tsp of barley or whole wheat flour to each svg, soak em in yogurt instead of milk at least 12 hrs and Im in! Oats need a very long soak and dont have alot of phytase to break down the phytates when activated by the acidity of the yogurt so the barley contributes it. Properly prepared oats are quite nutritious. Make sure to send an egg or two to give super needed protein to the meal. We add coconut oil or butter to each svg too. Fats keep you going once the carbs wear off!
The egg could be hardboiled and quartered w/s&p or an egg cup or egg sausage ball, also delicious cold or rm temp. Or a cold piece of sausage or ham or even chicken, hey lol

I cannot consume cow’s milk, I love this recipe with almond or coconut milk.
I have only done blueberry maple or bananas foster (banana maple) and love apple pie just as much! Can’t wait to try with pumpkin as suggested by another reader. Yummm!!
I make a big batch and then fill 250ml mason jars for the week. My son loves them for on the bus breakfast as well as after school to carry him until dinner.
    Thank you for inspiration :)

  8. Hey Lisa!

How long do these keep in the fridge? I’m thinking about filling all 12 of my jars for breakfast for all of us this week. Safe to do?

    1. My personal experience is 2-3 days is same consistency. If left longer it is still ok but starts to get goopy and oats get textureless.
      Hope this helps

    1. Linda,

Some people do eat overnight oats cold, however, my family & I prefer to pop them in the microwave in the morning.

For us, it’s more about saving prep time and kitchen mess versus how quickly oatmeal cooks.

      Hope that helps!
