For the first time in the history of my blog, I am sharing a cocktail recipe! Yes, it’s true that only wine and beer are technically allowed according to our 100 Days of Real Food pledge rules, BUT it’s no secret that (with our pledge officially over) we do indulge in some special treats on occasion. So, just in time for Cinco de Mayo, here is my husband’s recipe for Homemade Honeydew Melon Margaritas! Yum :)

Oh, and P.S. – My neighbor who is a Skinnygirl Margarita lover thought this version was even better!

Tried this and love this. Lisa, thank you so much for sharing this wonderful recipe. I had a long day at work and it helped me unwind :)

  2. These sound yummy. I was wondering if you have any other margarita recipes. I love blackberry and strawberry margaritas and I would love to make them a little healthier. Thanks in advance.

Hi. This is the only margarita recipe we have but you could give it a try with a different fruit.

  3. I made this and it was a hit! My husband loves margaritas and this is a great option. Unless my measurement was off, it was a bit strong so added more melon. Thanks for another delicious recipe and alternative.

  4. Lisa, I LOVE your blog!!! This recipe looks delish and I plan on trying it the way it is this weekend. I was wondering if you think it would be just as good with strawberries??

  5. If I wanted to make virgin style what could I use to sub the 1 cup tequila so it doesn’t mess up the consistency? Thanks.

Hi there. I suppose you could just add water. Obviously the taste will be more mild.

  6. Sounds delicious! So, can you explain why this isn’t ‘technically’ a real food? Is it the tequila? Thank you ALL the fabulous recipes!

Hi there. The 100 Days of Real Food pledge rules only include wine and beer. So technically, other alcohols just fall outside of the pledge rules.

  7. I think this sounds amazing! I want to try it with frozen honeydew to give it a “slurpie” consistency.

  8. This sounds fantastic! Lisa, your blog and cookbook have been lifesavers for me. Thank you for everything you do!

  9. Wow! These sound awesome! We usually stick to red wine, but I recently came across organic vodka at my Giant Eagle Market District and was so excited!! No organic tequila yet though :-/

  10. Lisa, keep on keeping on! We love your website, your recipes, and the education you provide. Sure, you can’t please everyone, but know that you are contibuting an excellent service for many. Thank you!
It sure would be nice if some would follow that old rule, “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”. But haters gonna hate; let them. We love your values, as I’m sure do thousands more.

  11. Really disappointing that you are trying to connect this recipe to Cinco de Mayo. It shows complete ignorance of what the holiday stands for and it perpetuates the disrespect for Mexican culture that Americans show (every day, but this day in particular) every year.

    1. Megan – I appreciate your feedback and apologize that Americans enjoy drinking tequila on Cinco de Mayo (although I certainly didn’t invent this method of celebration.)

  12. Don’t drink and don’t agree with drinking. Not a value of clean eating. Not sure why you feel it is so important to advocate it as part of a clean lifestyle. Hope your site does well, but I will not need “clean living” recipes from someone that advocates a non beneficial habit.

    1. Jeanni, wow being a bit harsh? She posted ONE recipe that was an alcoholic drink, and you want to stop subscribing to her webpage. So I guess celebrations and holidays you never indulge a little? Bye!

      1. Rachel that is the beauty of a blog or the internet you are allowed to have an opinion different than others. If you read the blog post it says, ” Yes, it’s true that only wine and beer are technically allowed according to our “100 Days of Real Food” pledge rules. So even if it is only 1 recipe for a cocktail, wine and beer are still alcohol. And no I do not drink at all, holiday or not. You can have what ever you want, I am not holding you back from doing that. I stated my opinion. I just want to be removed from my subscription to this site. Please don’t forget that their are about a million other things you could drink and try that are not alcohol? She spouts about have children and finding better food alternatives. I find it no fun for children to be around people that choose alcohol as their beverage. I thought this was about food, not beverages. That being said I just don’t find this a blog I am interested in due to it’s beliefs on alcohol. Soon when I am removed I won’t have to listen to people that really are not looking for a better way to drink, sorry I meant eat, and justification for said drinking.

    2. Jeanni,

No need to be so harsh. Are you claiming to have no vices, nothing in which you “cheat” a little bit. If you choose to not consume alcohol, that is your choice, but there really is no need to be so rude. You can just walk away without throwing insults. Would you really talk to someone face to face like that, using that tone and those words? If not, then please don’t think that is is acceptable just because you can hide behind your computer. Lisa is doing a phenomenal job regardless of whether or not you agree with her 100%.

      1. Rude, I think you want to say I’m rude because you want to justify drinking. That being said, if she has a blog she has had to hear far more actually rude statements. I wished her the best of luck with her site, unsure how that is so rude? Just want to unsubscribe and if you know how instruct me on how to do it. That way my rude self won’t be effecting you.

      2. Jeanni – I agree it would be best if you would unsubscribe. You can do so at the bottom of any of the emails you’ve received from me.

      3. Lisa some type of glitch going on then as if it was that easy I would have done that already. I would bypassed having to make a comment and having the pack of mean girls jump all over me after only reading part of your post. You also might want to read the damage alcohol does to the human body, if you truly are interested in eating or should I say consuming better. From the next post about choosing a margarita or should I say Honeydew Margarita a easy connection to Cinco de Mayo. I to think it shows disrespect for the Mexican culture, this comes from an American that is also Mexican. And I’m guessing by where this is going, that next years Cinco de Mayo post might have different content.

      4. Nope, come next year I’d happily post a margarita recipe all over again. I certainly am not the one who invented this method of celebrating May 5th, and I also very much enjoy alcohol in moderation. There are even proven health benefits to enjoying a drink (such as a glass of red wine) daily. To each their own.

    3. Calm down, Jeanni. No one is advocating. She’s just sharing. Feel free to move along if you are not interested.

  13. We don’t like the taste of alcohol but I’m thinking of omitting the tequila & mix in some sparkling water after blending for a fun sparkling mock tail.

  14. Oops…I did not know Tequila was considered against the rules and have been following the “eat (drink) anything you want as long as you make it yourself” approach. I make my margaritas from scratch and can’t wait to try this one! This seems like a great drink for a get together/barbeque:)
