This purpose of this website is to provide resources, recipes, and information that will help others cut out processed food. We very much value our reader feedback, even if it’s the opposing viewpoint, but if you’d like to add to the conversation please take care to do so in a respectful manner.

Any reader comments (both on the blog or Facebook) that fall into one of the following categories will be deleted and the user may be banned indefinitely.

  4. Profane
  5. Spam
  6. Otherwise inappropriate

We’ve worked hard to build this community and would like to keep it a happy place. So in summary…please respect the opinions of others and save the drama for your mama! And if you do get banned, don’t take it personally. With the Facebook growth lately we’re having to clean house with a heavy hand (again, all in an effort to keep this a happy place for our valued readers).

  1. This site is awesome. I have used lots of the ideas or I have used them as jumping off points for things that I use in our home. I am a Mom of 2 teenage girls and I work full time so basicly I have 2 full time jobs. Even some of the ideas that you have for younger children can be used to figure out ways to help my daughters eat a healthy lunch. It is crazy how many teens skip eating breakfast and lunch. I have been trying to teach our girls how to eat healthy and to love themselves. Thank you for helping make it easier. I even get them to look through this site to find their own ideas for healthy breakfasts and lunches. Suppers are a sitdown share your day kind of thing as often as we are able so we make them together and look at covering half of our plates with veggies 1/4 with carb and 1/4 with protein. It is good for them to know that eating is a good thing and they are putting fuel in their bodies so they can do fun stuff :) Anyhoo I guess I went the long way around but I just wanted to say thank you

  2. Thanks for everything you do to promote healthy eating. My kids are all grown up and I have 12 grand kids. I use this site for my own eating ideas. I am a two time cancer survivor and like the healthy recipes.

  3. TO repeat what many others have said – thank you for this terrific website!! Thanks for all your hard work – the information that you share has been tremendously useful to my family and many others! Disregard the few malcontents and carry on!!

  4. Lisa, I thank you too! You and “FoodBabe” have gotten me to really examine what I am putting in front of my family. I’m not where I want to be yet, but your posts are helpful, encouraging, and inspiring. Thank you for your research. You are appreciated in Wisconsin!

  5. Thank you so much for all of your hard work. You have been such an inspiration for me and my family. You have truly changed out lives!

  6. Hi Lisa, I just wanted to say that i came across your website a couple of weeks ago, whilst looking at changing my diet to ‘real food’ and being a little a little nervous about it, was really pleased to see your mini challenges, and started with the eat fruit/veg at every meal one. I was so impressed with how i felt, and how easy it was that I jumped right in, and have completely overhauled what i am eating – but if it wasnt for you and this website, i would still be reading about it, and thinking i wish i could do that!! i check in every day, and try out different recipes, and although i am in the uk, so we dont have the same shops as you, and i sometimes have to google ingredients, cos we call it something different, i think it is a most amazing tool, and i am so greatful for all your hard work, and sharing your families food habits so openly. I sometimes see the negative comments on here, and am shocked that people can be so judgemental, but dont let them spoil the amazing work that you do. Thank you from the botto of my heart.

  7. I love your posts. Even though I know it may be impossible to completely cut out all processed foods from my life in part because of a busy lifestyle and in part because there are just some things that I cannot do myself(homemade Oreos for instance) you have provided so many tips and tricks and information in general that have helped me cut processed foods from my everyday diet. Having a son with food allergies means earring less processed food is a necessity and being informed about the food we buy is the first step to making this a reality.

    1. I agree with you about the oreos. However, even though they are processed shaws supermarket has some of their organic brand that are pretty yummy. I believe Shaws is owned by Osco incase you don’t live near a Shaws.

  8. Lisa, I am so thankful for your blog and have been sad to see some negative comments lately. I’ve always found you to be incredibly down to earth and approachable. Like so many others, your blog has changed my life. We’ve always eaten well, and shop at Trader Joes and our amazing local coop. But, we still ate a ton of organic junk food – tons of chips, boxed Mac and cheese, and bread with a million ingredient and too many condiments. I was definitely guilty of thinking if I bought it at the coop, then it’s an healthy option. Just a month or so into eating mostly real food, I feel amazing, my family looks great and we’re super happy with stepping things up a notch. Thank you so much for making us aware of what’s really in our food and helping us make the best possible choices. What you’re doing is so important. Hang in there and don’t let the naysayers get you down.

  9. Thank you to you and all who have made this website possible!! I truly hope you are strong enough not to let the negative feedback discourage you from what you are doing. As the others said, ya’all are changing lives in the best way possible… Educating!! You are giving people the knowledge to make the decision for themselves how they want to eat. Of course, it’s not for everyone, and those who strongly disagree have the right to disagree but should still behave in a civil manner. PLEASE don’t let those few folks discourage you. My family is just within reach of being processed food free and we couldn’t have done it without you, your tips, and the recipes. Blessings to you all, and keep up the inspiring work you do!!

  10. Thank you for all the information you and your team provides! My husband and I love reading all of your articles. My genes are unfortunately not the best and after I found out I have the mutated brca1 gene, I decided that was it and we would be completely changing our lifestyle for our little girls sake and future health! We have been going strong for a year, my husband lost 40 lbs and I lost 30. We are healthy, have more energy and try to pass on your website to everyone who comes in contact with us! Also, thank you for the children lunch ideas because those help tremendously as well! Keep up these amazing things you all are doing!

  11. I just wanted to say thank you. Your website has inspired me to take a closer look at what my family and I were eating. I have been able to drastically change how they eat with out them noticing much of a difference.

  12. I love your website so thank you for all that you do. I have gotten a lot of great ideas and recipes to help add more variety to my family’s diet. Keep up the great work and here’s to clean eating!

  13. Hi Lisa– Yes, like others have said– for every instance someone takes the time to say something rude or profane just remember that your blog has changed someone’s life (including mine and my family’s) positively. I’ll never understand why people feel slinging mud via the internet is an okay thing to do. Keep up the good work.

  14. Another big Thank You. We have changed our eating since finding your blog. My children are eating majority of “real foods” now, and I will continue till I make it 100%.

I love your recipes, and have tried many!!

Thank you for the daily reminders, and recipes. You are helping many families.

  15. You’ve helped me look more closely at the choices I make for my family, and I appreciate what you do.

  16. I have to say, this is the first website that really made me think about what I was putting in my body. You also have tons of great ideas of what to feed my kids! They’re crazy about your chicken nuggets and I’ve been consistent about putting veggies on their plates now (even though my one-year-old still won’t touch them). Thanks for the inspiration!

p.s. They say you’ve made it when even the critics start paying attention ;)

  17. Because of your blog and shared wisdom, my kitchen is a different place and I’m proud of it. I appreciate the community you’ve made here and look forward to new posts. Thank you for everything and I think most of us are fine with ignoring the people who aren’t here to help build a positive place. Thanks again (and the scent of fresh honey wheat bread coming from the kitchen is heavenly).

  18. Just like countless others that read this blog, you have completely changed how my household eats. I have also shared your blog with friends and consequently changed their eating habits as well. How can you say no to losing weight and being healthy just by eating yummier foods??? WAY TO GO LISA, YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION!!!

  19. I am so happy I found this site. I started with giving up sugar then found this site and have moved onto eating clean. I did the 10 day challenge and rocked it. Lots of cooking and cutting but I prepare in advance and then have food for the week. I am normally health conscious, go to the gym 4-5 days a week but the weight wasn’t coming off. In one week without the added sugars, and artificial ingredients I lost 3 lbs.
Thanks for creating this great place to learn, grow and share!

  20. I love your site and facebook posts! I’m sorry some people have been rude. You have totally inspired me to do better at choosing whole foods all the time (well more of the time).

  21. Whenever someone frustrates you with their comments please do remember … for countless of us you’ve made a HUGE difference! I can’t even begin to express my personal thanks. The fact that you are NORMAL and not some preachy food rules crazy person is what got me to try this.

  22. Lisa,

I really have enjoyed reading your blog and have made changes to my families diet. I feel you have outlined helpful tips to an average consumer like myself. Don’t change a thing. Congrats on your success.

  23. I have relied heavily on your site over the past couple of weeks as I’ve made the commitment to eat real food. Obviously, we all modify based on our own needs and philosophies, but I’ve really appreciated the tone of your blog as helpful rather than condescending. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when one first begins reading ingredient lists. This blog (and links especially to Food Babe) have been a godsend!

  24. Great article. Laundry detergent also has many unacceptable chemicals in that are harmful to our bodies. Have found product called “Mollys Suds” which is a much better option.

  25. Hey there, I’m new to the site but very interested.. With that being said, I was wondering if you’ve see the Dr. Oz episode about how wheat is no longer our friend. The Dr. who was on this particular episode called it “Frankenwheat” He wrote a book and cookbook called “Wheat Belly” Have you heard of it? If so, what are your thoughts. Thank you so much for your time.
    Leslie

    1. Assistant to 100 Days (Jill)

Hi Leslie. Yes, we’re familiar with Wheatbelly. We believe that, unless you have a specific intolerance or allergy, there is no reason to avoid any particular food group. We believe in eating everything in moderation. Hope that helps. Jill

  26. I love reading your blog and learning new ideas about eating healthy. The only thing is when you have guest posts, the grammar is terrible? It is often hard to read because of that. I think a grammar check would be a great tool to use and make the posts easier to read!

  27. I posted the on your page wall if you steered clear from GMOs. I noticed there was no response yet, in fact I couldn’t find my post.

Any how, I am into healthy foods for my family as well. If you don’t avoid GMOs, you should look into it.

    Thanks for your time.
    Carol

  28. Your site is wonderful. I am using it as a spring board not just for healthy eating, but for a sustainability project my husband and I are doing. We are trying to make our lifestyle more sustainable, healthier and overall better for the environment.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and the knowledge of others to help all of us on our journey!

  29. I’m not sure why people have to take the time to write a negative comment on anyone’s blog…if you don’t like what is being said/shown, click the next button and move on. I love this website/blog. While I haven’t been able to incorporate all the changes I would like to, at this point, it has me on a higher alert and motivated to move in that direction! Thanks for all your hard work and sharing of your family, food, and inspiration with us!

    1. That’s interesting because I’ve seen other blogs share their comment policy…I guess we aren’t following the same blogs! :)

    2. Wow, Sara…you must follow some nice blogs, I wish that was the norm. I have seen this problem all over the place. Seems people use the online platform to speak before filtering their words and show no respect to those who they talk to. I doubt people would say half of what I’ve seen if that person was standing in front of them. It’s very sad.

    3. I’ve actually never encountered a blog that gets a lot of traffic that DIDN’T have this problem.

Lisa, I certainly hope you don’t feel badly about having to post this. If somebody walked by your house and dropped trash in your yard, you’d pick it up and throw it out. Same concept. Throw out the trash! :D

  30. I agree with Amy A — it stinks that you even have to “remind” people to NOT be rude, profane, etc. I have been trying to eat healthy during the past 10 years or so and have retooled many of my old recipes to be more nutritious. For the most part, I shop the periphery of the store — fresh fruit & veggies, etc. I rarely shop in the aisles, and when I do — I ALWAYS read the labels for nutrition info. I am thankful for you — you are providing education on foods that we have considered “safe” or “healthy” and they really aren’t. It’s harder/more time consuming to prepare foods so that we eat healthy, but the end result is so worth it: longer and more healthy lives.

  31. Go Karla!!! You are an inspiration!

Lisa I swear some people just like to argue or take out their bad day in your comments section. They need to get a life!

  32. For all the naysayers out there, I would like to report that your blog jump started me and has ultimately played a huge part in saving my life. On July 2, I found out that my cholesterol was 298. With my family history, my doctor was very clear to me that I would die of a heart attack or stroke sooner rather than later if I didn’t do something to get myself in check. I had taken a few of the mini-challenges from your site starting in May, but we went “all-in” in July. I am happy to report that (along with adding exercise) since July 2, I have dropped 40 lbs., and in the first 3 months I dropped my cholesterol by 60 points. Yep–60 points in 3 months! I follow the “rules” you set out very closely and have added in just a few of my own, like no pork, no shellfish, no crustaceans. My son, who is 10, has dropped 9 lbs. without even really trying (this was something he needed, according to his ped). Between our new lifestyle and a growth spurt, he is now within normal range for his age and height. I am so proud of him! He is playing better baseball than ever and now makes good choices even when I am not around (my friends and his teachers tell me later!).

So, I am VERY thankful for you! Of course, everyone comments on how great I am looking, so I immediately point them to http://www.100daysofrealfood.com!!!! I’ll share again after my Jan. doctor’s appointment on the cholesterol front. I am sure that I will be within normal range then!!

  33. Finally!! I am so glad you posted this. I have wanted to comment so many times to the countless rude people who would make nasty comments on your site, but I knew it would end up in a battle of words, so I restrained! I love this website! You are amazing at what you do and thank you!! We are not 100% real food yet, but we are so much closer than we were and that is all thanks to you!!

  34. Well, that just plain stinks that you even had to post this!! It still seems funny to me that people get SO MAD about somebody trying to be healthy! You are awesome and I am so thankful for your blog…thanks to you I have not had a diet soda in almost a year (and I had a 3-a-day Coke Zero habit).

    1. Amy A, you just inspired me. I am addicted to Coke Zero and struggle with it on a daily basis, even though I know how dangerous it is for my health. You have given me hope that I can kick the habit, too.

I have changed many many of my eating styles and that of my family, thanks to this website/blog/facebook page. I am confident that one day I will have a 100% change. I have many health issues that I believe I can reverse thanks to Lisa’s passion for spreading and sharing such good healthy information, and from all the encouraging testimonials I find here. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

  35. I think you are awesome! YOU have changed the way I eat! And trust me it is for the better, not just physically but emotionally too.

    Sandra
