This is basically how I’ve been making mine at home. I LOVE boiled peanuts, my Mother is from South Carolina, and I’m stuck in California. So these are required when I am missing these amazing snacks!

I’ve read the comments on here regarding one of my most beloved snack foods, and truly feel that these folks that commented on the negative side are communists!! Boiled peanuts are wonderful, especially with a refreshing adult beverage. I have a pot boiling right now. I also found the slow cooker recipe, and am doing a batch in the slow cooker for the first time. Hopefully they will turn out just as good as the stovetop version. Cajun on the stove, and just salted ones in the slow cooker.

I agree! Please don’t rate a recipe badly because you don’t like to eat that particular food. I can’t wait to try this…LOVE boiled peanuts!

  4. What’s the trick to getting them out of the shell? I tried them in NC this summer, and every single one had to be dug out. I didn’t like the peanut getting under my fingernail.

  5. My boyfriend and I met a guy at a farmer’s market selling boiled peanuts (he’s bringing the southern snack north to MN!) several years ago and my boyfriend’s been hooked ever since! Didn’t think I could ever make them at home.

  6. I never tasted boiled peanuts until I had moved to Hawaii in the 1980’s. There, they boil them with Hawaiian salt and star anise (I believe it’s a Chinese recipe). Yes, the texture is different. But there’s something comforting about them that I can’t explain. I would expect the southern version to be similar (texture wise, anyway) and urge you to try a small batch before you make judgement.

  7. Where can I find the raw peanuts? As a Bostonian that lived a decade in the South, I came to enjoy these and would love to make them.

    1. I buy them at a farmer’s market all summer. Keep an eye on the produce section in the grocery store for “green peanuts.”

  8. I’m from south Mississippi and I happen to really like boiled peanuts. I may have to give these a try as I’ve never made my own, but have eaten plenty in my life!

  9. I have to agree with Ellen. I have tried boiled peanuts twice in my adult life and both times it took everything I had not to be rude and spit them out. It’s definitely a southern thing and needs to stay down there! LOL

    1. That’s like giving a broccoli recipe a bad rating because you don’t like broccoli. Please, people, hands off the rating system unless you actually make the recipe.
